The Faculty of Health Sciences of the university of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) has obtained the quality seal of the world Medical Education Federation, which enables all its graduates in medicine for the exercise of the medical profession in practically all the countries of the world, among which now they are also included The United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Thus, the ULPGC is positioned next to the first 14 Spanish universities (where only 10 public universities are included) with this recognition that proves that the degree of medicine taught in the ULPGC meets all the quality requirements required by the World Federation of Medical Education, in addition to complying with the standards required at national and European level. In addition, the Faculty of Health Sciences of the ULPGC is the only center in the Canary Islands that has this seal.
As of January 2024, some countries such as the United States, Canada or Australia established a special exemption for visa of foreign medical professionals who requested medicine in these countries. For this reason, it has been necessary to manage, through the National Quality Evaluation Agency (ANECA)obtaining the world seal of Medical Education, which supports this work possibility after proving the quality of medical education in the university.
Thus, with obtaining this certification, the Faculty of Health Sciences of the ULPGC guarantees that all its promotions of graduates in medicine can develop the profession in virtually any country in the world.
“This seal allows our graduates in medicine to exercise the medical profession not only in the European continent, but in other countries of the world such as Australia or the United States and Canada, which currently offer good job opportunities,” explained the dean of Health Sciences of the ULPGC, María del Mar Tavío. In addition, this recognition will also be essential for those medical students who are interested in carrying out a specialty or stay in Australia and New Zealand.
