Mexico City. The environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAME) on Wednesday activated phase 1 of the environmental contingency by Ozone, since this afternoon high levels of the pollutant in the Valley of Mexico were recorded.
This is the fourth ozone contingency of the year, in addition to one by particles that was declared last January.
The agency explained that at 3:00 p.m. a maximum ozone concentration of 164 parts per Billon (PPB) was recorded at the UAM Xochimilco station (Uax), located in the Mayor’s Office of the same name, in Mexico City.
He explained that the influence of a high pressure system parked over the center of the country for three days, increased atmospheric stability today in the metropolitan area of the Valley of Mexico.
-“This situation associated with very high and persistent solar radiation, maximum temperatures between 28 to 29 degrees, as well as weak wind during the morning and early afternoon, has favored the accumulation of ozone precursors,” said the Came.
In the last hour, he added, wind has been presented towards the southeast that contributed to the accumulation of ozone in that area of the Valley of Mexico.
Given this, it activated phase 1 of the Environmental Contingency Program, so tomorrow Thursday, vehicles for private use with verification hologram 00 and 0, green gum, plate termination 1 and 2 must suspend the circulation.
Nor can cars with verification hologram 2, as well as those with verification hologram 1, whose last numerical digit is 1, 2, 3, 5.7 and 9.
