The president of Israel, Isaac Herzog, congratulated Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost for his election as a potato and encouraged him to “reinforce friendship between Jews and Christians”.
“I congratulate Cardinal Robert Prevost, newly chosen Pope Leo XIV, for assuming this sacred and monumental responsibility: the first American Pope,” Herzog wrote on social networks.
In his message to the new Pope, Herzog trusted to “reinforce friendship between Jews and Christians in the Holy Land” and wished that the papacy of the new Pontiff “be one of bridge construction and understanding between all the FES and peoples.”
“I hope we see the immediate and safe return of the hostages that follow in Gaza and a new era of peace in our region,” added the person in charge.
The new Pope, who also has Peruvian nationality, was chosen this Thursday on the second day of conclave to happen to Pope Francis.
