The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said Thursday that President Donald Trump may need to reevaluate efforts to negotiate a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia if the US does not see an advance “very soon.”
Ukraine and Russia are “closer, but they are still far,” Rubio told Fox News. “And a real advance will be needed very soon to make this possible, or I think the president will have to decide how much more time we will dedicate to him.”
Rubio argued that if an agreement is not reached soon, there are other issues on which Trump could focus.
“There is a point where the president has to decide how much more time at the highest levels of our government you dedicate to him when perhaps one of the two parties or both are not really close enough, when we have so many, and I would say even more important, issues occurring throughout the world,” said Rubio.
Earlier this week, the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, declared a three -day unilateral fire in Ukraine, from May 8 to 11. In response, the Trump government and the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reiterated the calls to a permanent fire.
Rubio, when asked if there have been efforts to reach an agreement in the US trade war with China, said: “The Chinese are holding their hands, they want to talk,” and said the conversations will arise soon.
Although he said that the question remains if a “short -term agreement” can be achieved between the US and China, the Secretary of State said: “There is a broader issue.”
“And that is yes … this is a call for attention that we really need to become a country that can produce more things in the United States and not depend so much on China,” said Rubio.
