In his condolences message addressed to the Vatican, Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the humanity of the Pontiff, who died on Monday
The Cubans remember with great affection their visits to the island and the words of affection he dedicated to our country in their messages, said Díaz-Canel in his message.
The Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, expressed his deep regret for the death of Pope Francis, whom he described as a “tireless defender of the humble, of the common house, as he called our planet, and of the fraternity among the peoples.”
In his condolences message addressed to the Vatican, the Cuban head of state highlighted the humanity of the Pontiff, who died on Monday. “Humanity had a tenacious defender of La Paz, who advocated the cessation of aggressions, blockages and unilateral sanctions,” the president wrote.
Díaz-Canel also highlighted “the signs of affection and cordial closeness that always transmitted to the inhabitants of our homeland, which he described as a beloved earth.”

-Rest in peace, tireless defender of the humble, of the common house, as he called our planet, and of the fraternity among the peoples. Receiving the news of his death saddened us.
Humanity had a tenacious defender of La Paz, who advocated the cessation of aggressions, blockages and unilateral sanctions. The signs of affection and cordial closeness that always transmitted to the inhabitants of our homeland, which he described as a beloved land, were reciprocated by the children of this nation, who remind with great affection his visits to Cuba and the words of affection he dedicated to our country in his messages.
The humility, wisdom, moral authority and transformative spirit that guided their life and pontificate, contributed to promoting a constructive and understanding dialogue between the two states, which allowed to continue developing the positive relations between Cuba and the Holy See.
