The wait ended: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its new members by 2025: The White Stripes, Soundgarden, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker y Bad Company.
The news was released during a special episode of American Idol presented by Ryan Seacrest. The induction ceremony will be held on November 8 at the Los Angeles Peacock Theater, with live broadcast through Disney+ and a version later edited in ABC.
In addition to the members in the main category of interpreters, the Hall will also award special awards: Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon will receive the award for musical influence, while Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins and Carol Kaye will be recognized with the Musical Excellency Award. The veteran record executive Lenny Wararker will obtain the prestigious Ahmet Ertegun award.
“Each of these new members created their own sound and attitude, leaving a deep mark on culture and helping to change the course of rock forever,” John Sykes, president of the organization, said.
The nominated artists who failed to enter this year are Phish, The Black Crowes, Billy Idol, Maná, Oasis, Mariah Carey and Joy Division/New Order.
