Integral unit that supports all pregnancy
From the return of Dr. Jorge Mocararquer last October, the possibility of creating a fetal diagnostic unit that takes care of high -risk pregnancies with severe maternal pathologies and improves the early diagnosis and counseling towards families with babies that present congenital malformations or placental problems. The idea is also early evaluating pregnancies in order to stratify the risk to, thereby reducing severe maternal morbidity in biprovice and, eventually, infant mortality.

In this regard, Dr. Jorge Mocararquer Tapia, perinatologist, highlighted what are the emphasis that this possible unit would have waiting to materialize its conformation in the medium term. “Our plan is to develop a fetal maternal medicine unit by acquiring the appropriate equipment, we plan to acquire a high -end ultrasound and specialized software for fetal maternal medicine, in addition to the human resource that is essential for our work. We plan to serve the entire population of the provinces of Quillota and Petorca to deliver comprehensive attention in their pregnancies, support and accompaniment, above all,” said the doctor who today performs functions in the area of women and in the high -risk obstetric polyclinic of the Quillota Petorca Biprovincial Hospital.
Exams that are already performed
Waiting for the formation of this high complex fetal maternal medicine unit, it is that the Biprovincial hospital has already initiated the realization of some exams such as the invasive prenatal genetic study, which investigated possible genetic alterations such as Down or Trisomy 18 syndrome in the entire stage of pregnancy. Likewise, bile acid exams is currently managed to diagnose intrahepatic pregnancy cholestasis, which is a pathology that affects the mother – baby binomial in the third trimester of pregnancy, and an exam to diagnose preclassia and thus anticipate complications that can put the life of the mother and/or her baby at risk.
