The words he issued this Thursday, May 1, President Gustavo Petro, did not like the members of the Congress of the Republic. In addition to referring to them as “slave HP”, he launched strong warnings in case they put resistance to the popular consultation proposal that will be processed in the Senate.
“Who does not want these reforms, is because it is a slave HP. I have not said any rudeness, honorable politician,” said the head of state. And in another fragment he said: “Not a single parliamentarian who votes against the popular consultation He chooses again in Colombiabecause no one will vote for him. That will be written on all walls, in all newspapers, it will be said in all stations. ”
Congressmen’s reactions have not been long in coming.
Representative Julio César Triana: “President Gustavo Petro, once again we say: we are not afraid of their threats. I remind you that both of you and us chose the people, with the difference that 11 million Colombians voted for you and by Congress, 18 million.”
Senator María Fernanda Cabal: “Petro turned on May 1 into a poor show, threatening as depressing. What does it mean to the flag of freedom or death? More than 17 million Colombians elected us congressmen and we will defend Colombia. ”
The representative Christian Garcés: “Mr. Gustavo Petro, We are not afraid. Those of us who believe in democracy, law and institutions are not going to be silent or give in to an anarchist and authoritarian president. You are not surprising with your threats. We will always defend democracy and homeland. ”
The representative Catherine Juvinao: “What would be the government of Gustavo Petro if all the effort she has dedicated to fighting, threatening, paying marches, trilling, disappearing in her addictions to love, etc., etc., would have dedicated it to work, administer, execute and give results. What a lost opportunity so handy.”
The representative Juan Espinal: “As they say in my land, ‘the one who is afraid that a dog is bought.’ Colombia and the Constitution are above you, we will respect democracy and assert the decisions of Congress. On August 7, 2026, the new president will clean the sword of Bolívar played today by his hands, which are smeared with blood (M-19).”
Representative Katherine Miranda: “President Gustavo Petro, Stop threatening to revoke Congress! If Congress does not approve of its improvised consultation, it is in all its right and legitimized according to the Constitution. Congress cannot proceed according to its dictatorial whims, here there is autonomy and freedom! ”
