Security is the first but chaos is the consequence: KLM, the Dutch airline of Air France, announced yesterday the withdrawal of the service of its B787 Dreamliner due to a failure in the maintenance tasks, which has caused a wave of cancellations on its routes (KLM also begins to charge for eating on board).
As reported by the company, during an ordinary inspection an irregularity was identified in the maintenance of a plane recharge valve. Apparently, the failure has nothing to do with the manufacturer. KLM did not report whether the person responsible for the failure is its own group or an external supplier that could serve other clients. KLM said the withdrawal of the 787 was a precautionary measure.
The cancellations have been immediate. Among other routes from Mexico, Chicago or Portland stopped operating. KLM has 24 of these airplanes, so seven cause an important problem. The company is already in contact with the travelers to which it offers alternatives on other dates.
The airline also has B777, but fuel recharge devices are different and not affected.
