The former president of , Ernesto Zedillo, intensified the of statements against Claudia Sheinbaum, Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the movement that leads with Morenastating that the three contribute to the “destruction” of democracy in the country.

Ernesto Zedillo’s new statements were given the interview with the León Krauze In the podcast entitled Cyberdiologistsin which he remarked that Claudia Sheinbaum was chosen to govern in favor of all Mexicans and not to give continuity to the political thought of her predecessor.

During the talk, the ex -president recognized the democratic triumph of Claudia Sheinbaum in the elections on June 2in which he obtained about 60 percent of the votes. However, he expressed concern about the statements of the president, who has expressed his intention to build “the floor of the fourth transformation”.

“She was elected to be president of a nation that wanted and managed to be democratic, and to be president of all Mexicans: of those who can think like her and those who do not think like her. She is president of all of us and thus must be assumed,” said Ernesto Zedillo.


‘The 4T consists in transforming democracy by dictatorship’: Ernesto Zedillo

Ernesto Zedillo said that the 4T movement, headed by both Claudia Sheinbaum and Andrés Manuel López Obrador, consists of transforming democracy into a tyranny.

“I would remind him that the function of a president is not to be popular, but to serve the nation democratically. Not being part of a project that is clearly of democratic destruction,” said the ex -president.

Given this situation, Ernesto Zedillo asked Claudia Sheinbaum to be clear and honest with Mexicans about their intentions to eliminate the democratic system of the country, instead of doing it through deception.

“Do not tell us that they believe in democracy. That they leave and say it clearly: ‘No, look, we have concluded that Mexico does not serve to be a democratic system; Mexico, to develop, has to have an authoritarian dictatorship,” Ernesto Zedillo emphasized in the interview with León Krauze.


How did the fight between Ernesto Zedillo and Claudia Sheinbaum arose?

The conflict between Ernesto Zedillo and Claudia Sheinbaum emerged shortly after the former president wrote an essay for the magazine Free lyricsin which he criticized the judicial reform promoted by López Obrador, ensuring that such initiative represents a threat to the country’s democracy. In addition, he pointed out that the Federal Government was responsible for applying for the majority of candidates who will participate in the judicial , without reviewing their abilities or their professional ethics.

Given the accusations, Claudia Sheinbaum questioned the moral authority of Ernesto Zedillo to criticize the reforms to the Judiciary, reminding him that during his six -year period he promoted the rescue that transferred the private debt to the public through the approval of the Fobaproa.

Claudia Sheinbaum also asked the Bank of Mexico to provide detailed information on the life of 143 thousand pesos monthly that Ernesto Zedillo receives.

In response, Zedillo accepted the review of his pension and the of approval of the Fobaproa, but in he requested that an audit to López Obrador’s projects be carried out, such as the Mayan train and the two mouth refinery, arguing that citizens have the right to know the costs and benefits of these works.
