YouTube continues to explore new ways to improve the experience of its users. On this occasion, the popular video platform is experimenting with a new subscription plan Premium. According to a MoneyControl report, one of India’s main financial information platforms, YouTube is testing the Premium Duo YouTube plan in countries such as India, France, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
This new plan allows two people to share the same subscription to a reduced costoffering an intermediate alternative between the individual plan and the family plan. A YouTube spokesman confirmed the initiative and explained: “We are experiencing with new ways to provide greater flexibility and value to our YouTube Premium subscribers, including offering a premium plan option for two people.”
What are the requirements?
To access the DUO Plan, both users must meet some conditions:
How much would it cost?
According to catches shared by MoneyControl, in India – a market with some of the lowest premium youtube prices in the world – the rates are the following:
- Plan individual: ₹149.00/mes
- Duo Plan (2 people): ₹ 219.00/month
- Family Plan (up to 5 members): ₹ 299.00/month
While these prices are exclusive to India, if YouTube decides to expand this modality to other countries, costs are expected to conform to local values. For example, in Peru the individual YouTube Plan Premium costs S/26.90 and the family plan S/53.90.
Why could this worry Spotify?
The new DUO plan not only includes the usual benefits of YouTube Premium – visualization without ads, background reproduction and downloads – but also integrates YouTube Music Premium, which makes it a direct competitor of the direct competitor of the Spotify Duoa plan already consolidated by the musical streaming platform.
If YouTube extends this duo plan globally, it could represent a serious threat to Spotify, by offering not only music, but also the complete experience of videos without ads in a single shared subscription.
