According to preliminary information delivered by the authorities, the accident occurred when the truck in which the team was mobilized was surprised by the strong flow of a stream after the heavy rains in the area.
The vehicle was caught and overturned inside the tributary. The five people approach – the driver and four Health professionals – died by immersion in the waters of the stream.
The team was part of an extramural day that sought to bring medical attention to scattered communities and difficult to access in that department. The victims were trapped in the vehicle and failed to leave on time.

-The lifeless bodies were rescued by relief units and transferred in ambulance to the headquarters of Legal Medicine in Riohacha, capital of La Guajira, where the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Attorney General’s Office is expected to carry out the corresponding technical inspections.
The local authorities lamented what happened and highlighted the work that medical staff advanced for the benefit of rural communities. At the moment, the identity of the victims or the state of the vehicle has not been informed.
The Prosecutor’s Office and Traffic Organizations advance investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident. The Ministry of Health has not referred to the issue publicly.
