Carlos Moreno, head goalkeeper of Pachuca, was clear in ensuring that the team does not fear America, current tricampeón of Mexican football. In addition, he rejected the nickname of “PA-Pachuca”, and said that statistics do not weigh in this kind of matches.
For four tournaments, the Colima goalkeeper has established himself as a key piece in the team. In the Clausura 2025, Moreno ended among the five goalkeepers with more save in the tournament, with a total of 54, ratifying its quality and confidence under the three sticks.
After accessing the league through the play-in, the archer assured that the important thing is not how they arrived, but what they will do in the so-called big party:
“Classify at the first opportunity of the play-in gives you more time to plan and rest, but the essential thing is to be in the league. How it happens to the background if you play a good role. We could avoid that instance, but things were given and now we are focused on what is coming.”
The next challenge is America, a rival with which the Tuzos have forged an intense rivalry. In direct eliminations, Pachuca has been victorious in five of seven series against the Eagles, but Moreno minimized the weight of those background:
“We believe ourselves capable of competing with any team. We respect the hierarchy of America, but those statistics do not define us. We are not directly responsible for that history, since many different players were in those series. We are focused on the present.”
Although he recognizes the greatness of the rival, Moreno emphasized that the Tuzos do not shrink before anyone:
“We know the quality of America, its template, its history. It is the only tricampeón in short tournaments, and that is respected. But on the court, we believe in our capabilities and we are able to win the tie.”
And he was blunt when talking about fear:
“In football there should be no fear, and we do not have it. America is a great team, but we trust our strengths. We are going to fight each ball as if it were the last one, and that will be the key to compete and win.”
Moreno also took the opportunity to thank the fans:
“They are always with us, whatever happens. They know what the club and its philosophy represents. I don’t have to ask them to support us because I know they will do it. We are going to leave everything to continue advancing and fulfill that dream that is also ours.”
Archers duel
2025 has been a key year for Carlos Moreno, who received his first call to the Mexican National Team to play the Final Four of the Concacaf Nuns League. Although he had no minutes, he shared a dressing room with Luis Ángel Malagón, goalkeeper of America, whom he will now face:
“He is my friend, a great person and a level goalkeeper. I respect him and admire him a lot, but on the court that is left aside. I’m going to do my best to help my team go out with a positive result. I wish her the best personally, but I want to win this series.”
