Max Verstappen, Red Bull pilot and current Formula 1 tetracampeon participated under a pseudonym in a test race of the NLS championship (Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie), in the legendary Nordschleife circuit in Germany.
The participation of the Dutch was under the pseudonym of Franz Hermann, and despite wanting to go unnoticed, his presence was not unknown.
Verstappen, who piloted a GT3 of 600 horsepower belonging to his own team, Verstappen.com Racing, managed by the Swiss team Emil Frey Racing, joined the official day of evidence and adjustments prior to the third round of the NLS.
Emil Frey Racing regularly competes in the DTM and in the GT world Challenge Europe, With Thierry Vermeulen, son of Verstappen’s manager, as the main pilot.
The participation of the Dutch champion was initially a secret. The vehicle that led was named “Franz Hermann” next to the flag of the Netherlands, in an attempt to hide his identity. However, their helmet and their suit, which still showed their name, betrayed their presence.
As revealed by the Motor Und Sport car, Verstappen adopted additional measures to maintain its test in anonymity.
He had their own security personnel, and photographers were prevented from access to the garage. The pilot seems be preparing the way to get the nordschleifen-permita special license that would allow him to compete in official NLS races and the prestigious 24 hours of nürburgring.
This is not the first time that Verstappen shows its interest in the iconic German circuit. In the past, he has participated successfully in virtual races of the DNLS, according to Motor Sport. During an online victory last year, he had already hinted at his desire to compete in Nordschleife in real life. “Nordschleife of Nürburgring is one of my favorite circuits and I hope to run here with a real GT3 in a few years”he commented on that occasion.
With his participation in this test, Verstappen takes another step towards that goal, confirming that his passion for Nordschleife goes beyond the virtual world and approaching his dream of challenging the German circuit in real conditions.
