Relatives of political prisoners in Venezuela on Tuesday requested the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, her speech before the government of Nicolás Maduro, to achieve the release of these detainees, which include two Mexican citizens.
Through a concentration on the outskirts of the Mexico Embassy in Caracas, the relatives delivered a document addressed to the Mexican president, in which they expressed their “deep concern about the systematic and prolonged crisis of human rights” that Venezuela lives.
In their letter, they warned that the conditions under their loved ones “have continued deteriorating.” They stated that “prolonged insulation practices have been maintained as a form of torture and arbitrary suspensions of visits as a mechanism of coercion have been applied.”
They asked the Mexican Government to “activate all multilateral channels and diplomatic mechanisms available to intercede before the Venezuelan government”, and “their attention and support” to ensure the “full and immediate and immediate freedom of their relatives, allow visits” without arbitrary restrictions “, put an end to the” prolonged isolation “, provide adequate medical care and guarantee the” respect for the right to designate the right to designate trusted lawyer. “
“Finally, we request that Mexico, having previously participated as a companion in dialogue processes between the opposition and the Government of Venezuela, assume an active role as a country promoting a regional commission for the freedom of political prisoners in Venezuela and in solidarity with their victims,” they added.
They ask Sheinbaum to advocate for the release of political prisoners
In this mobilization that is part of the global route for justice and freedom – a tour that they have planned to carry out this week by different embassies – the protesters, including several activists, held posters with messages urging Sheinbaum to “demand (the) freedom” for political prisoners and to promote “solidarity and active diplomacy”.
Carol Figueredo, wife of the opponent Pedro Guanipa, who has been arrested for 222 days, expressed concern and assured that he is “isolated” and without “the right to defense by a trusted lawyer.”
“She (Sheinbaum) can understand what we feel like mothers and wives. We are completely abandoned and alone in this situation,” said Figueredo. In addition to requesting that Red Cross access to the prison centers to “verify the conditions under which” their relatives are allowed.
-This route is expected to be organized by the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners (CLIPPVE), end this Friday before the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Venezuela, where they will ask that their diplomatic pressure be reinforced ‘in favor of more than 900 “political prisoners”.
