The State of Mexico reports less than one percent of affectation in forest areas during the present fire seasonaccording to the forest protector (And) during this year, Five thousand 939 hectares have been damagedwhich represents the 0.54 percent of the total forest areawhich is from One million 80 thousand 374 hectares.
Alejandro Sánchez Vélez, Director General of Probosque He explained that, of the total of the affected surface, Five thousand 340 hectares correspond to grasslands and shrub, 476 of renewed trees and 123 adult tree.
A special operation has also been implemented on the occasion of the patron saint festivities and Holy Week, which will be in force until April 27, respecting traditions and customs, recommendations were issued to avoid burning pyrotechnics near forest areas, turn off bonfires correctly, not throw cigarette butts to forests and the number of brigades in religious destinations of greater influx during this season was reinforced.
To this are added the sanctions for provoking fires, which could reach up to 10 years in jail for the people who cause them; as well as an additional sentence up to two years in prison for affectation in a protected natural area, according to the Federal Criminal Code.
