The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.6%in April in relation to the previous month and its interannual , to 2.2%, its lowest value since October, it stood at 1.8%, according to the data advanced this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The agency has explained that the moderation of the CPI up to 2.2% is due to the lowering of electricity, greater than that experienced in April 2024, as well as the lowest cost of fuels and lubricants for personal vehicles, and the decrease in gas .

In the opposite, the in leisure and culture prices for the celebration of Holy Week, unlike the month of April 2024, when they were cheaper. In this sense, it should be remembered that Holy Week last year took place in March, so that the prices of leisure and culture lowered the later month, that is, in April.

With the moderation of the year -on -year IPC in the fourth month of the year, inflation chains two months of descents in its interannual rate.

The INE incorporates an estimate of the underlying inflation (without unprocessed foods or energy products), which in April increased four tenths, up to 2.4%, two tenths above the general index. The underlying did not exceed the general CPI since October 2024.

With this April rebound, he put an end to three consecutive months of setbacks in the underlying inflation.

Monthly increase of 0.6%

In monthly terms (April on March), the CPI increased 0.6%, five tenths more than increased in March and its greatest monthly since last October.

With the rebound in April, inflation accumulates seven consecutive months of monthly promotions.

For its part, the harmonized CPI (IPCA) maintained its interannual rate in April by 2.2%, and increased 0.6% in monthly values. The underlying inflation of the IPCA is estimated at 2.5% for the month of April, according to statistics.

Statistics will publish the definitive data of the April IPC on May 14.
