This Thursday, May 8, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, Vladimir Mijáilovich Gundyaev, advocated a world of respect and equality, during a significant encounter that respect for the culture and values of the Russian people.
This meeting that is registered in the official visit made by the Venezuelan head of state to the Russian Federation, ratifies the Bolivarian Paz Diplomacy, a flag that seeks to strengthen international relations based on mutual respect and cooperation.
The patriarch, was born on November 20, 1946 in Leningrad (current San Petersburg) and from an early age, he devoted himself to the service of the Church, culminating his studies in theology at the Leningrad theology Academy.
In 2009, he was elected Patriarch of Moscow and all of Russia after the death of his predecessor, Alexy II.
During the meeting, the patriarch recalled his visit to Caracas and the joint commemoration of the Great Patria War.
“President, you show a good attitude towards our country with the decisive role played by the Russian people in the great victory of the homeland about Nazism,” the patriarch told the Venezuelan head of state.
For his part, President Maduro highlighted the historical role of the Russian Orthodox Church in the global context.
“The world was unipolar, but it is no longer. You have a great history as a church and, for the first time in the history of humanity, a group of non -colonialist superpowers is emerging. We are building a multipolar world where we can live together the great powers with intermediate and small countries,” said the national dignity in this dialogue.
In context, the Russian Orthodox Church is the largest of the Orthodox Churches in the world, with more than 150 million followers globally, which represents about half of the 300 million estimated in total for this Christian tradition.
With 160 dioceses and more than 30,000 parishes attended by a wide clergy, the Church plays a fundamental role in the spiritual and cultural life of the country.
This meeting between President Maduro and the Patriarch not only reinforces the links between Venezuela and the Eurasian nation, but also symbolizes a commitment to a future where nations can collaborate and coexist peacefully in a multipolar world.
