In his presentation as a new player for Inter Miami of the MLS, a team in which he will be a teammate of Lionel Messi, Matías Rojas spoke about Racing and did so with words of gratitude. “I had a very emotional departure from Racing. The truth is that they were four spectacular years. My family and I were fascinated by the institution. I never came out to say anything, I was one hundred percent grateful for the opportunity”started the former Academy midfielder who left the club on a free basis, after failing to reach an agreement with the leadership for the renewal of the contract.
Rojas was at the Academy for four years. And his best stage was in the last one, just when he was close to being the pass in his power. The club authorities were already determined not to extend more than what was offered financially. “I had good and bad moments in my teams. In Racing I started a little badly and finished well. I know my limitations and what I can give. I’m going to try to start here as I ended up playing in Racing,” promised the former Academy midfielder.
After leaving the Academy, he joined Corinthians in Brazil in mid-2023. Tired of the club’s debts, he managed to leave as a free agent. “My case with Corinthians turned out well. It was a short step,” he noted, “he personally taught me a lot. Contractually it was fine, but I can’t speak publicly. “It died a little but it was solved.”.

In Racing he won three titles (2019 and 2022 Champions Trophy, and 2023 International Super Cup), played a total of 126 games, scored 26 goals and placed 13 assists. At Inter Miami he will be a teammate of Toto Avilés, another former Academy player. But of course what he hopes most is to share the field with Messi, as well as other figures. When asked about the impression left on him by La Pulga, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba (all former Barcelona from Spain), he expressed: “They are of great caliber. Thank God, they are open, they are humble, great people. And you want to learn as much as possible from them.”
Rojas, former Academy midfielder, added: “I am happy: arriving at a spectacular club like Inter Miami is a dream come true. I am eager to compete and help my teammates achieve the team’s goals.”
Also from the MLS he spoke about Racing Agustín Ojeda, a member of New York City who joined in the summer transfer market. “I saw Racing’s game the other day against Coquimbo. I did preseason with them and I felt that the coach makes them hungry in the sense of going to press and play. I liked that a lot. He always left the best for Racing.
Trapito Ojeda was one of the 17 Racing youth players who debuted in First Division with Fernando Gago. In 2023 he signed his first contract until December 2016 and a termination clause of 16,000,000 euros. He packed his bags after 24 and three goals. Trapito Ojeda’s operation was worth millions in favor of Racing and Costas did not refuse. In addition to the important money for the club, the position was well covered with players like Santiago Solari and Johan Carbonero.
