ARLINGTON, Texas — Trevor Williams escaped two bases-loaded, no-out jams during five scoreless innings, and the Washington Nationals beat the Texas Rangers 1-0 on Wednesday.

Four relievers finished the shutout, while Alex Call hit a single that drove in the only run of the game.

Washington (15-15) recorded its third shutout of the season, all dating back to April 17. It has the opportunity to get above the .500 mark, something it has not achieved since July 1, 2021.

After allowing three straight singles to start the second inning, Williams (3-0) got three outs on eight pitches.

Two singles and a walk allowed the Rangers to load the bases again in the fifth inning. Williams got the first out with a force out at the plate.

He then struck out Cuban Adolis García, who began the day with a .423 average when there are runners in scoring position.

Evan Carter succumbed with a short ball to the center field.

Call singled to left field in the second inning off Andrew Heaney (0-4) to drive in Ildemaro Vargas, who reached base with a double.

For the Nationals, Mexican Joey Meneses 3-0. Venezuelan Vargas 3-1 with one scored.

For the Rangers, Cuban García 3-1. Dominican Leody Taveras 3-1.
