Gonzalo Jara told of a tough encounter with Alexis Sánchez in 2016: We were not all friends

The former defender of the Chilean national team Gonzalo Jara was the first guest on the program “Golden Generation”, Channel 13and among his revelations he told details of what was experienced in the successful process which led La Roja to win two Copa Américas and qualify for two World Cups in a row.

“There are fights, not combos, rather strong discussions between us. And there are many people who tell us: ‘You are friends with Alexis, Isla or anyone,’ and I tell them: ‘We are not friends.’ And they answer me: ‘But how are they not friends?'” he said.

The former Colo Colo and Universidad de Chile player expressed that “The truth is that not all of us are. Although it is true that we have lived together for many years and we all know each other very well, there are players with whom one shares more, it is like in any job. It is not that the 23 players were friends, for nothing”.

In that context, he revealed details of a discussion with Alexis Sánchez at the 2016 Copa América in the United States.

“What he told me doesn’t matter, The context was because he didn’t get the ball. Alexis always went down to get the ball and we didn’t touch it for him. I didn’t give it to her and she got angrybut he knew that he didn’t have to go down because he was important for us 10 meters outside the area creating and generating things,” he said.

“Us We had Marcelo Díaz, Arturo Vidal and Charles Aránguiz in front of us, who were the ones who had to get the ball to him. That Alexis went down did not cause anything for us, he had to occupy a space and a position that was assigned on the playing field,” he explained.

Jara also recalled the episode he experienced with Edinson Cavani at the 2015 Copa América in Chile, and said he had no regrets.

“I do not regret at all. Who didn’t make one of those who played soccer? Who hasn’t stepped on a partner? “It was something that later turns out as it turned out, and it’s unfortunate, but I don’t regret it at all,” he said.

“If the consequence of this was that Uruguay played with 10 and were champions of America, I have no regrets,” he concluded.
