KANSAS CITY — Bobby Witt Jr. homered and scored three times to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 6-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
The two starters struggled from the start, but composed themselves and limited the damage. Brady Singer (3-1) allowed one run and five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
He issued two walks and struck out four. Joe Ross (1-4) allowed three runs and the same number of hits in just over five innings, with a pair of walks and two strikeouts.
James McArthur earned his eighth save after blowing his previous two chances.
The Brewers opened the first inning with back-to-back doubles by Brice Turang and Venezuelan William Contreras to take a 1-0 lead.
The Royals responded with back-to-back doubles by Maikel García and Witt, but did not score until Vinnie Pasquantino hit a sacrifice fly.
Another Michael Massey lob made the score 2-1.
For the Brewers, Venezuelans Contreras 1-for-4 with two RBIs, Jackson Chourio 0-for-2. The Dominicans Willy Adames 4-1, Gary Sánchez 3-2 with two runs scored and one RBI.
For the Royals, the Venezuelans García 1-for-4 with one run scored, Freddy Fermín 2-for-3 with an RBI. Puerto Rican MJ Meléndez 2-0.
