MIAMI — Jesús Sánchez hit a three-run homer and hit a pair of doubles to help the Miami Marlins beat the Texas Rangers, 8-2, on Friday night.

Sánchez hit the homer off Venezuelan reliever Jesús Tinoco, who gave up two consecutive singles with one out before Sánchez sent his seventh pitch flying on a fly ball 417 feet from center field to put Miami ahead 7-2 in the seventh inning.

The win gave Miami a 14-13 record in the month of May – their first winning month since finishing 17-10 in September of last year. Meanwhile, the World Series champion Rangers (27-30) fell three games under .500 for the second time this month.

Nick Gordon opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run homer off the Rangers’ Dominican starter, José Ureña (1-5).

Dominican pitcher Sixto Sánchez, Marlins starter, worked 4 innings, allowing four hits, two runs and a walk. He was relieved by Declan Cronin (1-2) with two runners on board, and was able to get all three outs for the win.

For the Marlins, Dominicans Jesús Sánchez went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Otto López went 3-for-4.

For the Rangers, Dominicans Leody Taveras 3-1 with one run scored, and Ezequiel Durán 3-1.
