The Colombian anthem continues to resonate loudly this year in the World Motorcycle Championship thanks to David Alonsothe new prodigy of this sport.

The 18-year-old rider, who has dual nationality, Spanish by birth and Colombian by his mother, continues to impress with his quality in the Moto3 category, in which he established himself in the lead this Sunday by adding his fifth win of the season .

In a rugged Italian Grand Prix, seventh round of this campaign, Alonso, on the CFMoto of the Aspar Team, was unstoppable in the event held at the Tuscan circuit of Mugello.

The national representative triumphed ahead of the Dutchman Collin Veijer (Husqvarna) and of Japanese Ryusei Yamanaka (KTM). The test was marked by the accident of the Spanish Xabi Zurutuza (KTM), while his compatriot Iván Ortolá (KTM) crashed in the last corner while riding in podium positions and finished sixth.

In his history in Moto3, Alonso achieved his ninth victory, surpassing those achieved in 2023 (4), and leads the competition with 143 points, 37 more than the Spanish Dani Holgado (GasGas)who this time finished in fourteenth position. Third is Veijer with 95 units.

David, who during the weekend was the fastest man in the qualifying sessions, confirmed his favoritism in the race by taking command of it since the traffic lights went out that began the new challenge of the smallest category of the World Championship. He escorted him behind at that moment Iván Ortolá (KTM).

One turn later, the Dutch Collin Veijer, who started fourth, followed the Colombian.

But on lap four, of 17, and as reported by the Europa Press agency, the red flag began to wave on the track after Xabi Zurutuza (KTM) crashed in turn 9 and the Italian Filippo Farioli’s (Honda) motorcycle passed over him. “The Basque, conscious, was taken by ambulance to the medical center and the race resumed with 11 laps to go,” reported Europa Press.

At the restart, Alonso defended his first place until the end in the middle of the head-to-head fight he had with the Japanese Taiyo Furusato (Honda) and Veijer.

“It was a strange race, I tried to be calm in the box with the red flag. It was going well, but Collin was coming very fast, he was trying to escape me in some corners. The team did a great job, until the end I had to give my all and if it happened to me, well, I had given everything. I believed in myself,” Alonso assured the media.

“I tried to focus on just making my own path. I worked a lot on not thinking about those behind me when I was leading, focusing on my lines and giving my 90%, always leaving a little margin. “I have seen all the last laps of the Moto3 races here from 2023 to 2018. This time I was inspired by Jorge Martín, I have seen that you could break the group and win by coming out of the last corner first,” added Alonso.

The next World Cup event will be the Assen Grand Prix, in the Netherlands, on June 30.
