The Mexican senior women’s indoor volleyball team won the silver medal in the Final Four of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA), an event that took place over the weekend in Puerto Rico and is part of the process qualifier for the 2025 World Championship of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

In the grand final, those led by the Italian Nicola Negro fell 1-3 (20-25, 20-25, 25-19 and 25-27) against the local and current monarchs, who controlled the first two episodes. The Mexicans changed their strategy to take the third set and were close to winning the fourth, but gave in in sudden death.

“We started the first sets very badly, with little tactical discipline and we made a lot of mistakes. From the third onwards we improved our service and adjusted our blocking and defense system, managing to limit the rival’s attack. In the end we lost opportunities to go to a fifth set. We are now focusing on the Final Six, where we are going to find more teams and it will give us the opportunity to gain more experience and grow as a team,” said the European strategist.

Before playing the decisive match, the national team won two consecutive victories, first 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-15 and 25-16) against Cuba and then 3-0 (25-18, 25-16). 12 and 25-12) against Costa Rica, teams that played for the bronze medal, with a 3-1 victory (25-20, 25-20, 19-25 and 27-25) for the Cubans.

In addition to the great result as a whole, Uxue Amaya was recognized as the best attacker and scorer, Joseline Landeros as the best receiver and libero, while Karina Flores was distinguished as the second best center back.
