Trevor Lawrence breaks Burrow’s monopoly as the NFL’s highest-paid quarterback

Trevor Lawrence agreed to a five-year, $275 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, tying Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals as the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

Like Burrow, Lawrence will earn $55 million per season, which surpasses Jared Goff, of the Detroit Lions, who last May secured a payment of 53 million a year; Justin Herbert, of the Los Angeles Chargers, who earns 52.5 million; Lamar Jackson, of the Baltimore Ravens, with 52 million; and Jalen Hurts; of the Philadelphia Eagles, with 51.

Lawrence, 24, was about to enter the fourth season of his rookie contract, but Jacksonville exercised his fifth-year option earlier this offseason and has tied him up for five more seasons. The Jaguars’ young star quarterback made the team selected in the number 1 position in the first round of the 2021 Draft.

Since then, has completed 63.8 percent of his passes in 50 starts over three regular-season years and has a record of 20 wins and 30 losses. He has 11,770 passing yards, 58 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. His best campaign was 2022 in which he led the Jaguars to the American Conference (AFC) South division title. In the playoffs he achieved one win and one loss.

In the 2023 seasonthe Jaguars, who are led by coach Doug Pederson, finished with a record of nine wins and eight losses in second place in the AFC South division.

For this campaign, Jacksonville strengthened the quarterback position with the signing of Mac Joneswho left the New England Patriots to become Lawrence’s backup.

Like Lawrence, Jones, 25, was also selected in the first round of the 2021 Draft, although in position 15, as a future project for the Pats who were looking for a successor after the great years they lived under the guidance of Tom Brady.
