Nuri Sahin was key in his role as assistant coach for Dortmund to reach the Champions League final

Nuri Sahin was confirmed as the new coach of the Borussia Dortmund, announced this Friday the club Bundesliga it’s a statement.

The 35-year-old signed a three-year contract at Signal Iduna Park and replaces Edin Terzić, who announced his resignation on Thursday.

Sahin made 274 appearances for Dortmund as a player in two spells and was part of the team that won the league title in 2011. The Turkish international, who made his debut for Dortmund when he was 16, also played for Real MadridLiverpool and Werder Bremen before finally retiring in the Antalyaspor Turkish in 2021.

“For me it is a great honor to be coach of the Borussia Dortmund. “I would like to thank all members of the club’s senior management for the trust they have shown in me and I am very excited about my new position at BVB,” Sahin said in a statement.

“From day one we will do everything we can and work with energy and passion to make this club as successful as possible.”

He returned to Dortmund as assistant coach in January 2024.after a period of a year and a half as coach of Antalyaspor.

Sahin impressed as an assistant coach under Terzić and is credited with playing a key role in Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final.

“Nuri Sahin helped us reach the final of the Champions League Last season. “He has the experience here as a player and assistant coach to know how BVB works and, above all, he knows how to be successful,” said Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl.

“With his natural authority and experience, he has a good relationship with our team and knows what we need to work on collectively. “Nuri has all our trust and all our support.”
