Hungary-Switzerland, Spain-Croatia and Italy-Albania, the matches of the day

After the overwhelming 5-1 win by local team Germany against Scotland, Euro 2024 continues this Saturday with three interesting matches. In the first round the other two members of Group A will play: Hungary will clash with Switzerland. Then all the members of the so-called Group of Death will jump onto the playing field: Spain-Croatia and Italy-Albania.

HUNGARY-SWITZERLAND:

Hungary will clash against Switzerland

After Germany’s overwhelming victory against Scotland, both Hungary and Switzerland will look to take advantage of that result to bid for a place in the round of 16.

The Hungarians have not played in a World Cup since Mexico 1986 and this will be their third consecutive European Championship. In 2020 they were eliminated in the first round. The Swiss, for their part, fell in the last 16 in the previous World Cup (as in Russia 2018 and Brazil 2014) and in the last Euro they reached the quarterfinals.

Probable formations:

Hungary: Péter Gulácsi; Bendegúz Bolla, Ádám Lang, Willi Orban, Attila Szalai, Milos Kerkez; Roland Sallai, Ádám Nagy, Callum Styles, Dominik Szoboszlai; Barnabas Varga. DT: Marco Rossi.

Swiss: Yann Sommer; Silvan Widmer, Nico Elvedi, Manuel Akanji, Ricardo Rodríguez, Dan Ndoye; Ruben Vargas, Remo Freuler, Granit Xhaka, Steven Zuber; Zeki Amdouni. DT: Murat Yakin.

SPAIN-CROATIA:

Spain-Croatia, duel of candidates

The highlight of the day will be at the Berlin Olympic Stadium. In that scenario, two of the main contenders to win the title will face each other. From 1:00 p.m., with refereeing by Englishman Michael Oliver, Spain will clash against Croatia.

La Roja, which is in full renovation under Luis de la Fuente, seeks to raise its image after falling in the round of 16 in Qatar 2022. In the last Euro Cup they finished third. The Balkans, on the other hand, are going through a golden era as they were runners-up in Russia 2018 and third in the last World Cup. In the Euro Cup, however, they have just fallen in the round of 16.

Probable formations:

Spain: Unai Simón; Jesús Navas, Nacho Fernández, Robin Le Normand, Marc Cucurella; Pedri, Rodri, Fabián Ruiz; Lamine Yamal, Álvaro Morata and Nico Williams. DT: Luis de la Fuente.

Croatia: Dominik Livaković; Josip Stanišić, Josip Šutalo, Marin Pongračić, Joško Gvardiol; Luka Modrić, Marcelo Brozović, Mateo Kovačić; Lovro Majer, Ante Budimir and Andrej Kramarić. DT: Zlatko Dalic.

ITALY-ALBANIA:

Italy, defending champions, will clash against Albania

The curtain on the day will come down at Signal Iduna Park, where the defending champion will face a cast that will seek to continue making history. From 4 p.m., with refereeing by German Felix Zwayer, Italy will face Albania.

La Nazionale, despite not qualifying for the last two World Cups (Qatar 2022 and Russia 2018) and being eliminated in the first round in the previous two (Brazil 2014 and South Africa 2010), is the current champion of the competition. The red and black team, on the other hand, has never qualified for a World Cup and will play in the top continental competition for the second time in its history (the previous one was in 2016, when it was eliminated in the group stage).

Probable formations:

Italy: Gianluigi Donnarumma; Raoul Bellanova, Matteo Darmian, Alessandro Buongiorno, Riccardo Calafiori, Andrea Cambiaso; Davide Frattesi, Jorginho, Nicolò Fagioli, Federico Chiesa; Gianluca Scamacca. DT: Luciano Spalletti.

Albania: Thomas Strakosha; Elseid Hysaj, Berat Djimsiti, Arlind Ajeti, Mario Mitaj; Kristjan Asllani, Ylber Ramadani, Nedim Bajrami; Jasir Asani, Taulant Seferi and Armando Broja. DT: Sylvinho.
