Le Mans.- The last two hours of the 24 Hours of Le Mans seemed exciting, with a two-way battle between Toyota and Ferrari for glory, as in the historic centenary edition of 2023. However, a touch between the second of the Italian cars and the first of the Japanese completely weakened the battle and destroyed #8’s options.

The #50 Ferrari and the #8 Toyota were battling for the previous hour with Alessandro Pier Guidi and Brendon Hartley respectively, when they decided to make the stop on the same lap. Toyota had a slow pitstop with a gun that failed to remove the nut to change a tire, which meant that after entering close together, they left separated by 10 seconds.
That helped the #51 Ferrari, which was previously fighting with the #7 Toyota for the podium, get very close to the #8, to the point of overtaking it. Hartley managed to regain second place, but upon reaching the chicane, he saw how the Ferrari overbraked and overtook him, causing him to spin.
Hartley barely managed to get out of the gravel escape, but losing valuable time that made him fall from second to sixth, ruining all the options of Ryo Hirakawa and Sebastien Buemi who left the image of the day.
