Jarvis, about to crash “ten times” before winning in LMP2 at Le Mans

The United Autosports driver added his second victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 category after his triumph in 2017, along with Nolan Siegel and Bijoy Garg, in the ORECA-Gibson 07 #22. His car was one of six in contention during the competition despite the difficult and changing conditions, including the overnight period when torrential rain forced him to go behind the Safety Car.

“The track changed every lap,” Oliver Jarvis told Motorsport.com. “It was dry and then it rained, and you had to use dry tyres. It was cold and you couldn’t maintain the temperature of the tyres, I must have almost crashed the car ten times, you are literally hanging on to it.”

The Briton, who also finished on the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Audi on three occasions, faced some of the most difficult situations, including a final stint in which he began to build his lead, although he had a good scare in the chicane: “You’re always one small mistake away from hitting the wall, so I was relieved to see the checkered flag.”

“There were times when I wasn’t sure if we were going to win with him or jam him into the pads,” he added. after triumphing by just under twenty seconds over Inter Europol #34, in addition to thanking his team for the strategy during the legendary French event. “They came out here as rookies and they leave as winners.”

Nolan Siegel also admitted to being “very happy” that the Briton replaced him for the last two hours and preferred to “stress on the sidelines rather than stress in the car”, while Bijoy Garg added that Saturday was the first time he had driven under the rain in the dark: “I was thinking, ‘why do I have to learn it here?’, but I’m glad I did, I stayed on track and maintained good track position at all times.”
