After his departure from Pereira, the Colombian coach has everything arranged to take on a challenge.

Leonel Álvarez arranged his departure from Deportivo Pereira, in a surprising way, once the elimination of the Matecaña team was completed in the semi-final quadrangles of the BetPlay I-2024 League, in which he lost the opportunity to be a finalist on the last date of group A .

According to an official press release, a common agreement was reached with the Pereira leadership; although other versions speak of possible non-compliance, departure of players, differences and signings that the Colombian coach would have requested, but that were not contemplated by the Risaralda club.

The truth is that Leonel did not last long without a team, since the 58-year-old coach is desired in the market, and he would already have everything ready for a new experience outside his country.

Thus, Leonel Álvarez is already in Ecuador, ready to sign a contract with Emelec de Guayaquil, a team that has just lost Hernán Torres. Thus, compatriots will replace each other.

President José Pileggi had the Argentine Lucas Pusineri among his options, but he decided on the experience of Leonel Álvarez, who has coached in Paraguay and Peru, and who has won two League titles in Colombia (with Medellín) and a Super League ( Cali), as well as a Paraguayan league with Cerro Porteño.

It is expected that in the next few hours, Álvarez will be announced as coach of Emelec, with whom he will sign a one-year contract.
