This Friday, the Chilean and Peruvian National Teams will meet again in a new edition of the Pacific Classic, this time within the framework of the 2024 Copa América in the United States.

This traditional clash, which finds two teams that are adjusting to new processes, led by Ricardo Gareca and Jorge Fossati, respectively, has been characterized throughout history as one of the most even in this competition.

In 21 matches for the Cup, La Roja has totaled 8 victories against 7 for the Bicolor and 6 draws, while in terms of goals it favors the Incas with 31 conquests vs. 27 of the nationals.

The duel with the most goals was played in 1955 and was a 5-4 victory for Chile. Meanwhile, in the last two confrontations both defined their passage to the final, with victory for La Roja 2-1 in the 2015 Cup (double by Eduardo Vargas) and Peru 3-0 in the 2019 edition (Edison Flores , Yoshimar Yotún and Paolo Guerrero).

It should be noted that in both aforementioned semifinals, “Tigre” Gareca, now Chile’s coach, led the Blanquirroja.

This new edition of the Pacific Classic, valid for the first date of Group A, is set for 8:00 p.m. (CHI) and will take place in Arlington (Texas).
