CHILE AND CANADA CELEBRATE THE LAST BEACH VOLLEYBALL QUOTAS FOR PARIS 2024

While the South Americans qualified by defeating Argentina in the men’s final, the Canadians did the same against Mexico in both genders.

Iquique and Tlaxcala were the venues for the last qualifying tournaments for Paris 2024 in Beach Volleyball. The South American Men’s Pre-Olympic Tournament was held in the north of Chile, while the NORCECA championship was held in the Mexican city.

Complying with favoritism, the Chilean team made up of the pairs of Primos Grimalt and Vicente Droguett and Noe Aravena beat the Argentine pairs of Maciel Bueno-Bautista Amieva and Nicolas Capogrosso-Tomás Capogrosso.

Chileans and Argentines starred in an attractive final that was only defined with a golden set after tying 2 games won each.

In the definition that gave the tickets to Paris, Cavancha, Marco and Esteban Grimalt for Chile, and Maciel Bueno and Bautista Amieva for the albicelestes jumped onto the field. In this best of 15 points set, the experience of the Lima 2019 Pan American Champions and two-time Olympians was evident, as they easily took the Gold Set by a clear and well-deserved 15-11, leaving the series with a 3-2 in favor of the Chileans and achieving the last place for South America in the Beach Volleyball for Paris 2024.

“We are going through a good moment and we have the conditions, either of the two teams, to be in Paris,” said Marco Grimalt after the final.

Regarding who will represent Chile in the Olympic Games, the oldest of the Grimalt cousins ​​clarified that “It is a shared quota. The Chilean teams achieved the classification and there is only one pair, so we will inform you during the week what the criteria are.: If it is a match or a series of three matches between us to define who the duo is. Whichever of the two teams goes, we will be well represented, we are both going through a tremendous moment, this quota is not ours, this quota belongs to the country.”

CANADA CELEBRATES X 2

In the NORCECA Qualifier meanwhile, the Canadians were the ones who obtained the places in both women and men. In both genders they deservedly beat the Mexican team.

In the women, Heather Bansley and Sophie Bokovec demonstrated their supremacy and beat the Mexicans Atenas Gutiérrez and Susana Torres in the final by 2-0 with partial scores of 21-16 and 21-17) qualifying for Paris 2024. Third place went to Puerto Ricans Allanis Navas and María González.

In the men, meanwhile, Samuel Schahter and Daniel Dearing got the spot by easily defeating the duo of Juan Virgen and Ricardo Galindo by 2 sets to 0 (21-13 and 21-13). The bronze medal went to Yoel and Christopher Guardado.
