NEW YORK (AP) — Francisco Álvarez hit an early home run and drove in three runs, Tyrone Taylor added a three-run shot and the New York Mets beat the New York Yankees 12-2 on Wednesday, sweeping both teams. Subway Series games.
Harrison Bader also homered and contributed an RBI double for the Mets (39-39), who punished Dominican rookie Luis Gil (9-3) in the fifth inning. Yankees pitchers allowed seven home runs, 21 runs and 24 hits in two nights at Citi Field.
With their 15th win in 19 games, the Mets climbed back to .500 for the first time since May 10, when they went 18-18 with a loss to Atlanta.
The faltering Yankees, who lead the AL East, have lost four consecutive series and eight of 10 games.
After an 87-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fifth inning, Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer with the Yankees trailing 7-0 in the sixth. It was his 287th home run, tying Bernie Williams for seventh in franchise history.
He also joined Mark McGwire (four times) and Ken Griffey Jr. as the only players to reach 30 home runs before the All-Star break three times.
For the Yankees, Dominican Juan Soto went 1-for-2. Venezuelan Oswaldo Cabrera 3-1.
