Will Jazz Chisholm be the best position player to be traded this summer?

With the White Sox clearly on their way to becoming sellers, center fielder Luis Robert Jr. has been involved in trade rumors recently. However, it is not a guarantee that the Cuban slugger – who will turn 27 in August – will be traded to another club.

In polling several MLB executives about the top players they expect to be traded prior to the Trade Deadline, The Athletic’s Jim Bowden (subscription required) expected Robert’s name to come up more often. However, most executives think the asking price would make the Cuban less likely to be traded. Robert is signed through 2025, with two fairly reasonable team options for both 2026 and 2027 ($20 million each), which takes some of the urgency out of the situation from the White Sox’s perspective.

Instead, Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Marlins was the name that came up most frequently among position players.

Miami, like the White Sox, is a selling team. The Miami club already sent Venezuelan Luis Arráez to the Padres at the beginning of May. Closer Tanner Scott, who is set to become a free agent, is also likely to be traded.

Chisholm, 26, has dealt with nagging injury issues as a major leaguer, but has managed to avoid the disabled list this year and is hitting .264 with 10 homers, 14 stolen bases and a .768 OPS in 77 games. This player offers an interesting combination of power and speed, having averaged 28 home runs and 32 stolen bases per 162 games since the beginning of 2021.

Chisholm is under contractual control through 2026, so it’s possible the Fish will try to retain him. According to Bowden’s report, some teams are interested in Chisholm as a center fielder, a position he has played since 2023. Others, meanwhile, see him as a middle infielder.
