The speculations are over. In recent weeks the idea has multiplied that Max Verstappen could leave Red Bull to emigrate to Mercedes for the 2025 season. The team led by Toto Wolff was in charge of presenting a special scenario. They even went so far as to state that they were going to wait until the last minute to announce their pair of drivers for next year pending the Dutchman’s determination. And the world champion defined his future and captured the special attention of his team, the house of Milton Keynes.
Red Bull’s project with its own engines is a complete mystery, since they will be launched when the new technical rules come into force. Added to this is the internal war that developed in the team. Both factors could have pushed Verstappen to take a step towards Mercedes, but the world champion was clear before the start of the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix: “I think I’ve said it before, people talk a lot, but the most important thing is that we can also have a good car in the future. So far we are very close, but we are working at full speed to improve. With the team we are also working next year to be competitive again”.
