Tulio Gomez spoke about Zapata and Cuadrado to America

The club’s majority shareholder spoke out amid rumours of big signings.

There is a lot of talk these days about the Betplay II 2024 League, which will have the illustrious presence of idols of the Colombian National Team such as Falcao in Millonarios, David Ospina in Atlético Nacional and Eder Álvarez Balanta in América de Cali.

And as if it were a competition before the official whistle blows between the clubs with the most purchasing power in the country, many hope that big signings will continue to be announced and that those who are thinking of closing out their careers will think about their country and decide to return.

But is such beauty true? It is worth saying that the situation does not always have the happy ending that the Falcao case had at the ambassador club: that the interests of the club and the player coincide so precisely, that sponsors come on board, that the international market does not get in the way and that the parties give in so much is not so common.

But since dreaming is free and not everyone understands the economic variables of big signings, rumors have started to spread around América de Cali, now under the command of Jorge ‘Polilla’ Da Silva.

Will two stars arrive?

The rumours have their origin in the scarlet club itself, which shared images on its social networks of a visit made by Duván Zapata, an idol of the club and who is also a self-confessed fan, to the club’s facilities in the middle of pre-season.

That, of course, made us think of some kind of approach and, in this climate of big hiring, of an alleged effort by the club for his services.

A similar reality was experienced by Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, who is currently working at Independiente Medellín, awaiting an offer to continue his career, after a difficult year at Inter Milan, in which he was injured for too long, despite having been crowned champion of the Calcio.

Tulio Gómez, the institution’s largest shareholder, responded to both cases in a brief and forceful comment on his social networks: “smoke.”

Marcela Gómez, president of the scarlet team, had previously explained that the conditions of a striker like Zapata are “unpayable” for the club, a situation similar to that of Cuadrado, who is waiting for a good offer with several weeks of the market still open in Europe.
