Google has developed this system so that users have greater security when installing applications from unknown sources. This process is part of the essence of Android, allowing any content to be executed within the operating system without coming from the Play Store.

Logically, installing applications from unofficial sources poses a risk for users. There are usually no problems and it is thanks to the fact that Google has built barriers within Android that prevent these applications from being able to access different sections without your prior consentbut this situation is not ideal.

Many applications from unknown sources are disguised as malware and will do everything possible to access two specific protocols: ‘Accessibility‘ and ‘Notification Listener‘. The reason behind this lies in everything they can gain by taking control of these two protocols.

On the one hand, ‘Accessibility’ of the device allows any application to read the content on the screen and perform actions as if they were the user of the equipment. ‘Notification Listener’ provides information about notificationsboth its content and the possibility of taking any action regarding it.

Any malicious application that takes control of these two protocols is capable of steal information and commit any type of action on the device, fraud being the most common. Google wants to put an end to this danger through ‘Enhanced Confirmation Mode’.

This system would allow Android to distinguish if an application has been installed through the Play Store or if its source is unknown. In case the source is unknown, the application would have restricted access to this type of protocols thus avoiding dangerous situations for users.
