The Czech video game Kingdom Come: Deliverance was a huge success both in the Czech Republic and abroad when it was released in 2018. Now, Warhorse Studios, the studio that developed it, is preparing a sequel. In an interview for Radio Prague International, the studio’s spokesperson, Tobias Stolz, spoke about this news, and revealed some other of the studio’s future plans.

“Kingdom Come: Deliverance has sold more than six million copies to date. One can say that this is a great success for a game studio from the Czech Republic. We never imagined it, although we really trust our product. Even six years after its release, the game continues to break records. People still buy it and play it and it has already become a classic. “This is a huge achievement not only for us at the studio, but for the Czech video game industry.”

Stolz stressed that during the preparation process for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the development team had in mind making the game an international product. So far, the most avid players come from markets such as the United States, Germany, and Japan. In terms of numbers, the country with the most copies sold is the United States, while in proportional terms, Germany occupies first place. The main reason, according to Stolz, is that the game takes place in Bohemia. The site and the history, the spokesperson continued, are better known among Germans and therefore seem more attractive to them.

And the game has a solid historical basis, Stolz stressed.

“Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a role-playing game. The player plays Henry, the son of a blacksmith, who takes part in a civil war. The funny thing is that the game is based on real historical events that took place in medieval Bohemia in the year 1403. To make sure that the data and events are correct, we use the help of historians and collaborate with different universities. I firmly believe that if one wants to take a look at what the Middle Ages looked like, the game offers the closest representation.”

Six years after the release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Warhorse Studios announced on April 18 the soon arrival of a sequel. Stolz highlighted that the studio has 250 employees who follow the philosophy of working on only one project before focusing their efforts on the next and they began working on this sequel just a year after the release of the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The announcement of this sequel with a 14-minute video had massive success around the world. “It has gone viral because the public has been waiting for it for a long time and this makes us very happy,” says Stolz.

According to its creator, Kingdom Come: Deliverance supports not only the Czech video game industry, but also tourism, since many people who have played the game want to visit the place where the story takes place. This is located south of Prague and a lot of curious tourists from Germany, France and Great Britain come there. Stolz revealed that the sequel takes place in Kutná Hora, so they can now prepare in that city.
