Nintendo has announced the celebration of World Championships: NES Edition, which will be held on July 18, with which players will be able to test their skills from home to make the jump to the World Championship in an online format.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a global competition for players from around the world on Nintendo Switch to compete in more than 150 mini-challenges from 13 classic NES games.

This is a tribute to the in-person Nintendo World Championships, which took place in 1990, 2015 and 2017, as Nintendo reported in a press release. The new edition will be digital only and will be held on July 18.

The company encourages players to “warm up” by breaking their own records in single-player mode (Speedrun) and then moving on to compete locally in Party mode. An active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online will allow you to access the World Championship mode, where you can present the best times you have achieved in five challenges (which will rotate each week), to try to gain a place in the world rankings.

Specifically, they will be able to test their skills in speedrun challenges taken from Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby’s Adventure, Metroid, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

Also available on July 18 is Nintendo World Championships Deluxe: NES Edition, a special edition pack that includes a physical version of the title, a set of five collectible pins, 13 commemorative illustrated cards (one for each classic NES game included in this title) and a replica of the golden NES ‘game pak’ (for exhibition only, with stand included), in memory of the one that was awarded as a prize at the original Nintendo World Championships in 1990.
