Maybe you didn’t know it, but Apple created a version of Tetris that it intended to include on its iPods. However, Stacker, which was the name it was going to have, was never officially released. The game was similar to the original and it has recently been discovered that was in some third generation iPod prototypes.

Thanks to AppleDemoYT YouTube channel, we have discovered it. The YouTuber has uploaded a video showing some prototypes of Apple devices, since that is what he does, and among those devices he has shown a third generation iPod classic with the game Stacker as part of the device.

Stacker could have been Apple’s version of Tetris

Stacker, developed by Apple software engineers, operated quite intuitively. The tetrominoes, the iconic Tetris pieces descended from the top of the screen. Using the arrows on the iPod’s click wheel, players could move the pieces from one side to the other, and by holding down the center button, the pieces fell faster. The goal was the same: remove as many lines as possible to increase score.

This is what the game Stacker looked like on an iPod

Stacker It was going to be part of the iPod games catalog with click wheel, but in the end it did not arrive. Yes, games like Brick, Solitaire, Parachute or Music Quiz. However, having a version of the legendary 80s game on an iPod would have been great. It seems that Apple’s interest in Tetris did not stop there, since Apple TV+ has a movie based on its story.

Although Stacker is on this third-generation iPod prototype, we didn’t see the game. Tony Fadell himself, one of the fathers of the iPod, commented in an interview that the games that came to the iPod were added later with another software update. We will never know what caused this game to not arrive, but at least we can see what it would have been like.
