Nintendo is one of the most important video game companies in the industry, and like its competitors, it has also been involved in numerous leaks, one of the most notable being those in 2023 with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In this case, a Google employee accessed the private videos from the YouTube account of this Japanese company and announcements were released before they were made official.
These types of leaks came to light through the report made by 404 Media, which had the opportunity to address the case with Google itself and report on what happened. In this interview, the company that created the famous website search engine assures that “it was not intentional”.
“At Google, employees can quickly flag potential issues with the product for review by relevant teams. When an employee submits the flag, it suggests the priority level to the reviewer.”
“The reports obtained by 404 are from more than six years ago and are examples of these flags; each was reviewed and resolved at that time. In some cases, these employee signals turned out not to be problems at all or were problems that employees encountered on third-party services.”
Between 2013 and 2018, Google reportedly tracked potential privacy and security issues reported by some employees. However, in these obtained voice data from childrenwhich were hosted on their servers, as well as trips and addresses, including deleted histories to “improve” the user’s algorithm, suggesting recommended videos on the site.
Although this dates back more than 5 years, there have been no records of this practice continuing to be used, at least in the voice data collection section. However, it is true that, based on our searches, YouTube will suggest similar videos or recommend some that may interest us.
Regarding the Nintendo announcement leaks, it was revealed that, before the demonstration of the new Yoshi’s Crafted World, This was leaked through a screenshot from Nintendo’s private videos. In the URL that can be seen in said screenshotit was noted that the site begins with “admin.youtube.com”, which implies that it is a Google administrator or moderator.
