With the rise of chatbots and natural language processing systems, such as ChatGPT and its counterparts from Google, Microsoft, IBM, among others, artificial intelligence (AI) has gained more and more space in daily life, facilitating communication, creativity, task execution, programming and even the way we consume content, since little by little various companies have included this technology in their search engines and streaming recommendation systems.

Taking advantage of this boom, more and more technology companies are including AI-powered features in their products to improve user experience. This is the case of manufacturers such as Samsung and OPPO, which this year put smartphones at the forefront of this innovation on sale in the Colombian market.

For several days, EL COLOMBIANO was able to test two recent models from both companies in different situations, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra 5G and the OPPO Reno 11 F 5G, high- and mid-range smartphones, respectively, that incorporate AI.

Galaxy S24 Ultra

On February 7, Samsung officially launched its Galaxy S24 5G series devices in Colombia, smartphones that, beyond offering improvements in the battery, screen and cameras, integrate artificial intelligence in areas such as editing and taking photographs, real-time translation and productivity.

In the case of the camera, Samsung presents a ProVisual engine that automatically optimizes image taking, improving framing and reducing noise in photos.

Manuel Penagos, Mobile product manager at Samsung Colombia, explained that “the software helps improve the taking of photos, their resolution and also their subsequent editing.” In addition, the S24 includes a night photo function, also called “Nightography”, which allows you to capture high-quality photos in low light conditions and optimized by AI to reduce noise at high ISO.

In addition, photo editing has been simplified and enhanced, since you no longer need to be an expert in Photoshop to delete or move objects in an image. Three stars on the screen indicate the option to use the so-called Galaxy AI for these tasks.

“Users can frame the photo differently, erase objects and reduce noise. In the end, each AI-edited photo will also be marked with a star symbol, indicating that it has been modified to prevent the creation of fake news,” he adds.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 Ultra also incorporates the Live Translate Core function, which facilitates communication in different languages. Penagos explained that it allows you to download up to 13 languages in the app and use it, even if you do not have a data or Wi-Fi connection.

Even during a call, the receiver can listen to the audio translation in real time, while the user views the transcription on their phone. “When activated, the receiver hears a message indicating that the call is being translated in real time by Galaxy AI,” the spokesperson said.

For users who need to convert some audio to text, such as meetings or journalistic interviews done over the phone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra offers the transcription option, identifying the speakers and automatically writing up what was said, which saves time and improves organization.

Penagos comments that this tool also helps to give the correct tone to messages, adjusting them to a professional or friendly style, depending on preference, and correcting spelling.

But AI also plays a crucial role in optimizing performance and energy efficiency when playing video games or using graphically demanding apps. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 processor and artificial intelligence helps improve its performance and refresh rates for smoother image display.

Finally, Penagos mentioned that the new Android 14 and One UI 6.1 operating system, integrated into the Galaxy S24 Ultra, seamlessly combines all these AI functionalities. Although the S24 is the top of the line, these improvements are also available in previous high-end models, allowing more users to enjoy Samsung’s innovations in artificial intelligence and experience a superior user experience.

OPPO Reno 11 F 5G

At the beginning of March, the Chinese manufacturer OPPO officially brought the Reno 11 F 5G to Colombia, a smartphone that also stands out for the way in which it integrates artificial intelligence to improve the user experience on a daily basis, both in the field of photography and performance optimization.

Juan Maldonado, PR Manager of OPPO Colombia, explained to EL COLOMBIANO the innovations that the latest version of the ColorOS operating system brings: “In ColorOS 14 we find AI-based functionalities, such as intelligent cropping of people and elements in images, and the ability to delete them”, in addition to the new FileDoc tool.

Without a doubt, the intelligent image cropping function is one of the most prominent and increasingly common in launches from various brands, the difference is that OPPO offers it in devices that cost around $2,400,000, that is, mid-range.

Another important innovation is the transformation of images into text using AI, a tool that facilitates productivity for those who need transcriptions. “When we take a photo of a document, AI recognizes the text and allows us to copy and paste it wherever we prefer,” explained Maldonado, emphasizing the convenience of converting physical documents into digital ones in a simple way.

Regarding performance optimization, the Trinity Engine stood out, “a functionality designed to free up space in RAM and make the computer much faster,” said the spokesperson.

On the other hand, we can also highlight its fast charging technology called Superbook, which allows the OPPO Reno 11 5G to charge more than 35% of its battery in just 10 minutes through its 67 watts of charging and without overheating.

OPPO Colombia’s PR Manager also explains that the phone has an expandable RAM option, which allows you to borrow some gigabytes of storage so that the device is faster when running several apps. Also worth noting is the Ultra Volume option, which increases the sound up to 300% without losing much quality.
