Qualcomm has brought to Computex a large number of laptops from different brands equipped with its new processors Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus. ASUS, Acer, HP, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung and Microsoft are some of the companies that have already prepared laptops with the new platform.

In addition to the CPU with 10 or 12 Oryon cores and the new Adreno GPU, these SoCs have advanced Artificial Intelligence capabilities thanks to their Hexagon NPU, and the company has let us see some of the functions that they are capable of executing natively on the NPU without the need for external processing.

The functions range from the Copilot+ virtual assistant, present in all laptops equipped with the Snapdragon

One of the most striking features has been the DJ application “djay Pro”, whose native version for ARM64 works without problems on these laptops and can make use of Artificial Intelligence to help in the mixing process.

Using AI, it is capable of separating the different instruments and bases of an audio track, facilitating synchronization between tracks or allowing the creation of totally new songs, combining instruments and bases synchronized independently and in real time.

We leave you a small demonstration video.

When using the separation of tracks and instruments, it is striking that neither the CPU nor the GPU of the Snapdragon In fact, although this technology works on current computers with Intel Core Ultra Meteor Lake processors, its operation is much slower, on the order of half the performance.

Other striking AI-based functions are those related to multimedia creation and editing. In the Davinci Resolve video editor, which also has a native ARM64 version, we can take advantage of the NPU to perform real-time tasks that previously required complex processing. For example, it is possible to draw a small line, and the AI will select an object or person and create a mask that will be adjusted frame by frame in real time, without the need for pre-rendering and without overloading the CPU or GPU.

The tracking is done fluidly, and we can see in the following screenshot how the NPU is working, while we have the CPU and GPU more freed up to continue working on other aspects of the edition.

The Gimp, the popular open source photo editor, also has support for different AI-based plugins, like this one that uses Stable Difussion to add AI-generated images.

In this case, it is not necessary to overload the CPU or the GPU, nor to connect to the network, since the entire model is executed directly locally and it is the NPU that allows images to be created in seconds, practically in real time. from text commands such as “Taipei Tower 101” or “A Cat in a Hat”.

When the creation of these elements is requested we can see that it is the NPU that manages all the load.

These types of solutions are available in AI software from different manufacturers and developers, but we also have full support for Copilot+, with tools such as real-time translation from more than 40 languages, or the creation of images with more or less level of creativity from simple drawings created by hand.

We can regulate the level of “creativity” and freedom that we give to the AI to have results more or less similar to the initial drawing, or images that have little to do with the sketch.

FINALLY, there is also room for Gaming, and Samsung is one of the companies that is most committed to this in its laptops with Snapdragon X Elite. Not in vain have they integrated the most powerful version of this line of processors, and more than 1,200 games are currently being tested to be able to run on these computers.

We have been able to see Baldur’s Gate III in real time, maintaining a stable rate of 30 FPS with FSR technology. It is not a typical gaming device, but it leaves us room to play a game.

It is especially striking how thin this laptop is. It also doesn’t generate much noise, and the external temperatures barely showed any warming.
