Asus ROG Ally X has made its official debut, arriving with a couple of key updates. A big improvement in the new portable gaming device is the 80 Wh battery, which is double that of the non-X variant. This will translate into greater autonomy after a full charge.

The next improvement has to do with the design, as Asus claims that the ROG Ally X is “much more comfortable” than its last device. The new gamepad places the D-pad a little closer to the screen, offering better reach. It also brings the compact M keys to the back.

Additionally, there is a difference in dimensions, as it measures 208.2 x 114 x 36.9 mm, while the previous one measured 208.25 x 116.5 x 32.4 mm. However, the Asus ROG Ally X is slightly heavier at 678 grams, which is likely due to the larger battery capacity.

But the most interesting improvement to the Ally X has to be the increase in storage and memory. Asus’ latest gaming laptop came with up to a 512GB M.2 2230 SSD while the new one equips a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD. As for RAM, it got an upgrade from 16GB of LPDDR5 6400MHz to 24GB of LPDDR5 running at 7500MHz.

However, the ROG Ally Asus has replaced it with a USB4 port, which can offer a maximum bandwidth of 40 Gbps.

On top of that, the new portable gaming PC only comes in one variant that features the Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, support for universal charging, a better cooling setup, and more durable joysticks. The launch price of the ROG Ally X is $799, and Asus has already started accepting pre-orders. For comparison, the top-end non-X variant launched at $699 (available at Best Buy), but given the improvements, this $100 price increase seems well justified.
