The agonizing death of E3 has not led to the disappearance of its spirit during these summer dates. The Summer Game Fest and the events that follow have brought together most companies, which continue to take advantage of this time and space framework – the month of June and Los Angeles – to present their future projects. The path of Dragon Age has not been easy at all: BioWare has been working on the project for many years, which has changed and mutated over time. The Canadian developer is now seeing the light and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the next installment of the saga, will show 15 minutes of gameplay on June 11. Before that, EA has shared a first look at the Xbox Games Showcase. First surprise: the artistic style; second surprise: it comes out in autumn 2024.

Why Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has changed its name

Gary McKay, general manager of BioWare, has explained the reasons that led the studio to change the name of Dreadwolf to The Veilguard. In short, It is because the current title better captures the identity of the video game, although he has also assured that Solas will continue to play a crucial role in the adventure. “Each game introduces a new hero—The Guard, Hawke, and the Inquisitor—whom you can call your own. You can expect all this and more in the new game.”

In the statement, The director has confirmed that there will be seven protagonists who will accompany the main character, all of them with their own stories and decisions. All of this will affect the relationship with the protagonist and his own lives. In a similar way to Mass Effect, two of these companions will accompany our character. According to BioWare, the team has put a lot of focus on combat, which will introduce a skill wheel and tactical pause.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. The gameplay of the video game can be seen in its entirety on the saga’s YouTube channel.
