X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter and owned by Elon Musk, will soon only allow premium subscribers to create live streams.
“Starting soon, only Premium subscribers will be able to go live (create live video streams) on X,” reads a post on X from the verified @Live account. “This includes live streaming from an encoder with X integration. Please upgrade to Premium to continue working.”
The post does not specify the date the changes will take effect. X subscribers are divided into three tiers: Basic, Premium and Premium+.
The Basic level includes features like post editing, longer posts, longer video uploads, response prioritization, text formatting, bookmark folders, custom app icons, and more. Users who subscribe to the Basie level pay $3/month or $32/year.
X users who opt for the Premium level pay $8/month or $84/year. The second tier features include all the features of the Basic tier, plus you get the blue check mark, fewer ads, creator subscriptions, ad revenue sharing, and more.
Premium+ users pay $16 per month or $168 per year and get all of the above features of the other two tiers, plus no ads in the For You or Following tabs, and increased response growth, plus the ability to write articles .
The move is the latest attempt by Musk’s company to boost revenue. Earlier this year, Musk teased the idea of charging a “small fee” to allow new users to post to X immediately after creating an account, in an effort to prevent spam and bots. Non-paying users will only be able to read posts from other accounts.
