The Government sent to Congress the bill to lower the age of imputability to 13 years

The Minister of Justice, Mariano Cuneo Libaronatogether with the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrichthey sent the new one to the National Congress “Juvenile Criminal Law” to lower the age of criminal responsibility to 13 years, in order to avoid impunity for crimes committed by minors.

According to official reports “The judicial system will be given the tools to end the doctrine that benefits criminals to the detriment of victims. It is our duty to update the current regulations to end the insecurity suffered by good Argentines. Previous administrations and Justice have left a great debt with society. The law that currently governs is from the ’80s. “Today’s youth is not comparable to that of more than four decades ago.”

“This new law will combat the persistent growth of youth crime, one of the greatest challenges to the prosperity of our nation. It is public knowledge that organized crime takes advantage of children and adolescents to commit crimes without restrictions, thus evading criminal responsibility” , they stated.

In the statement, they reaffirmed that “our commitment is to protect the life, liberty and property of Argentines. Criminals will no longer be able to use minors as a means to break the law. “Whoever has the audacity to take up a weapon and take a life must face law and justice.”
