During Sunday afternoon, within the framework of the Xbox Showcase, despite the solid presentation and the striking games announced on the occasion, it was impossible not to think about the studios that the company recently closed.
In this context, and in conversation with IGN, the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, referred to the situation by pointing out that “The closure of any team is obviously hard for the individuals there, hard for the team [de Xbox]”, and adding that “I have not been speaking publicly about this, because now is the time to focus on the team and the people […] and I want to make sure we’re doing the right thing for the people on the team. It’s not about my PR, it’s not about Xbox’s PR. It’s about those teams.”
Spencer on the occasion referred to the reasons behind the closure of the studies, pointing out that “I have said time and time again that I have to run a sustainable business within the company and grow, and that means that sometimes I have to make difficult decisions that, frankly, are not decisions that I like, but decisions that someone needs to make.”
It is worth remembering that a few weeks ago Xbox announced the closure of Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games and Roadhouse Studios. The closure was highly questioned, especially in the case of Tango, a studio that had recently released the successful Hi-Fi Rush.
Xbox Showcase
This Sunday’s Xbox presentation was marked by big announcements, such as a new Gears of War installment, a new Perfect Dark game or a Doom prequel.
In addition, on the occasion, previews of long-awaited games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and even a new look at Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were presented.
But that was not all, since a new completely digital Xbox Series X was also presented on the occasion.
