The supply of televisions and projectors that arrive in Spain this year is redoubled with the arrival of sporting events such as the European Championship in Germany or the Olympic Games in Paris. Users search ever bigger screensbut in the case of televisions that implies sometimes unaffordable prices and the ‘obligation’ of having a large space in the living room to leave it fixed.

On the other hand, projectors are becoming smaller and more portable, especially those with ultra short throw laser technology, which hardly need any distance to achieve large diagonals. In this field, Philips is one of the most prominent brands, after launching the U4 and U5 projectors on the market. Now it is the turn of its first portable triple laser projector, the Screeneo UL5 Smart, protagonist of the company’s latest crowdfunding campaign on the Indiegogo platform.

His compact size and lightness, 206 x 94 x 86.6 mm and only 1.05 kg, are its main assets, and allow it to be taken anywhere to project all types of content. It has a DLP unit with a 0.23-inch DMD chip and three independent lasers for RGB colors, allowing it to offer 200% of the Rec.709 gamut, 108% of the BT.2020 and 150% of the DCI-P3 cinema space, in addition to HDR10.

The resolution is FullHD, with a maximum of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, and it has a projection ratio of 0.23:1. Being ultra-short throw, it can get up to 18 cm from the surface where it is projected to obtain 35-inch images. By moving it away to 60 cm, get a 120 inch diagonal, although the brand recommends leaving it at 100 inches to obtain optimal contrast and brightness. Its rectangular shape allows you to use it to project vertically on a screen or wall, or stand it up to do the same on the floor or a table.

One of its disadvantages is its maximum brightness of 550 ANSI lumens, so it needs low light conditions to look good, although it has a considerable native contrast of 1,800:1. It also has automatic focus, digital zoom and manual keystone correction, and to be completely portable it is missing that it includes a battery, since it must be permanently plugged into the mains to work.

It also has the classic HDMI input to connect consoles or other multimedia sources, as well as two USB-C ports.

In the campaign, which has already achieved the financing goal, The device is available for 699 eurosand the first shipments are scheduled for the month of July, with a final release on the market in October of this year.
